For '56, Ford engineering takes another giant step forward with the new, advance-design Ford SelectAire system that always provides a comfortable climate regardless of conditions outside. The single, simplified SelectAire system, an extra-cost option, cools, heats, ventilates, and defrosts through one sliding lever control. Four convenient directional control air outlets eliminate annoying "fixed-direction" drafts. The two main outlets are at either side of the radio grille and can be turned in any direction desired or shut off completely. The two smaller outlets can also be rotated full circle in any direction. Additional air outlets and two small, manually operated doors below the instrument panel provide a direct, steady flow of air along floor, toward the rear. The SelectAire system is available on all models equipped with a Y-8 engine.
Ford's new Signal-Seek Radio is a high-fidelity type with 9 tubes including rectifier and tuning motor sensing tube. Unlike ordinary signal-seeking radios with mechanical spring motors and solenoids, this instrument uses a sturdy, reversible, direct-current motor that provides both forward and reverse control operation, automatically, and uses one switch instead of two. A "Town" (T) button causes the signal-seeking motor to select and pinpoint local or close-in stations; a "Country" (C) button tunes in stations anywhere within the broad range that the radio can receive. Like Ford's Console Range radio, this set offers Conelrad (Office of Civilian Defense) emergency setting marks, new 12-volt operation, printed "1-piece" circuits, and a self-cleaning speaker that lets dust work itself out of the speaker.
