Medium-price car buyers who like the look of the Lincoln Continental will love the longer-wheelbase Mercury Monterey and Monterey Custom models for 1969. Standard engines for the nine models offered are the 265 horsepower 390 2V with manual transmission that utilizes regular fuel and the premium fuel 280 horsepower 390 2V with automatic transmission. Two optional 429-cubic-inch engines are rated at 320 and 360 horsepower.

Among the numerous options available are a new speed control system and three audio entertainment combinations.
