The Better Idea Cars for 1970
Mercury Cougar

Luxurious, with a Sports Car Flair

The Cougar Hardtop has a host of standard features.
The 1970 Cougar is available in four models - a hard top and convertible in both the base series, and the richly appointed XR-7 line.

Design of the '70 Cougar has been refined with a new vertical grille, and overall length has been increased more than 2 inches to 196.1 inches. All of the extra length has been added at the front, increasing the car's sporty flair.

The Cougar XR-7 Hardtop
Cougar interiors feature high-back bucket seats as standard. Also new for 1970 is a houndstooth check cloth-and-vinyl interior in two colors with a matching vinyl roof. Natural grain leather is used to accent the seat surfaces of the XR-7. Hidden headlamps, sequential turn signals, and fully carpeted cockpit area are among other standard items.

The 351-cubic inch 2-barrel V-8 rated at 250 horsepower and the manual three-speed fully synchronized transmission are standard for 1970. Select-Shift and four speed manual transmission also are available. The high-performance Hurst Shifter is standard with the four-speed manual transmission on all Cougars.
