The Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop
Enjoying a long-standing reputation as the industry's "quiet one," Ford for 1970 continues its tradition for easy handling, road-smoothing ride, high-performance and quality craftsmanship.  Ford enters the seventies with a selection of 21 models - 14 new passenger cars and 7 new station wagons - grouped into six series: Custom, Custom 500, Galaxie 500, XL, LTD, and LTD Brougham.

All 1970 Fords feature new rear and side ornamentation, new exterior colors, plus two new, more formal grilles. Interior comfort has been improved with the addition of a new Flow-Thru ventilation system and several new convenience features, including pull-type door handles. Among a host of engineering improvements are redesigned front suspension system, new optional electric defrost system for the back window and new steering wheels with concealed horn blowing mechanism. Bias-ply fiberglass-belted tires, optional last year, are standard.

Brougham interiors include special seat, door and quarter panel upholstery and trim styles, simulated wood-grain accents on steering wheel and instrument panel, center armrest, and cut-pile carpet.

Ford's 250-horsepower 351-cubic inch, 2-barrel V-8 engine is standard on XL, LTD, LTD Brougham, and all station wagon models. It is also the base V-8 engine option on Galaxie 500 models. Other powerplants range from the 240-cubic inch Six to the 4-barrel 429-cubic inch V-8. Standard is Ford's three speed manual transmission. Optional is Ford's SelectShift Cruise-O-Matic.

There is a wide choice of optional equipment power windows, power seats, power door locks, fingertip speed control, high-back bucket seats, and a variety of audio-stereo combinations. A manual reclining front-passenger seat is newly-offered on all 2-door models from Galaxie 500 series up.
