1961 Ford
Thunderbird Convertible
For 1961,
the Thunderbird was changed from "stem to stern", including a brand-new
390-cubic inch, 300-horsepower engine which was standard equipment. The
convertible top operation was again automatic, and again, unlike the
Lincoln Continental, it required manual release of the windshield mounts
before the top could be lowered.
From the 1961 Ford Thunderbird
brochure:
"The most beautiful
convertible ever built!" "Without leaving the driver's seat you snap open
the top clamps, push the top control switch and at once the rear deck
starts to rise." "...with the top neatly stowed away the rear deck
lid closes itself. There's not a hint that this car ever had a roof." |
