(a) The 1955 and 1956 Ford Crown Victoria
was offered in two versions: a traditional steel-roofed version, or the
transparent roof version, which was called the Skyliner (as in 1954). Both
versions featured a chrome tiara that wrapped up from the rear passenger
windows, and forward to form the roof-to-body pillar, over the roof, and down the
other side. This particular feature is what usually comes to mind when
someone mentions "Crown Victoria". The steel-roof Crown Victoria is body
style 64A in both 1955 and 1956.
(b) The name "Skyliner" was used for all
Ford transparent roof cars. Starting in 1957, the name "Skyliner" was used
for all Ford retractable hardtops. The name was retired after 1959 when
the retractable hardtop body style was discontinued. |
