1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria

Gary Gehrke

It has the 272-cubic inch, 172-horsepower V-8 engine and 3-speed manual transmission.

I I bought my steel-top 1955 Crown Victoria in May, 2000. At the time, I was looking for a 1940-1941 Ford pickup. I found one in Bemidji, Minnesota, about 450 miles from my home in Manawa, Wisconsin. Upon inspection of the pickup, I found it had more serious problems than I wanted to contend with, but the seller also had a '55 Crown Victoria for sale. It had a great body, the interior was new, and it hadn't been driven in over 10 years - but it didn't run. Ten years of neglect had taken its toll. After cleaning out 5 gallons of "varnish" from the gas tank, putting on a new fuel pump, wheel cylinders, power assisted dual master cylinder, plus, points, coil, and a carburetor rebuild, it was running well and roadworthy. Oh yes, I put on a new exhaust system, too...glasspacks, of course!
