1956 Ford Parklane

Lee Sheppard

The Thunderbird 292 Y-block purrs like a kitten with only 60,000 original miles.

My 1956 Ford Parklane was in storage from 1975-2000. It still has the California Safety Patrol stickers in the window, the original invoice in the glove box, and the american flag decal that was put on it in the early '70s. It is one of a handful of Parklanes built with the "Lifeguard System" (padded dash, padded visors, seat belts.) The car has original paint and nothing on the engine has ever been apart other than water pump, carb, fuel pump, hoses & clamps, etc. It has been a driver for me for the past two years.

I have replaced the interior because the old seats were pretty broken down but we did it in the original style. It has been driven from Colorado to Texas, Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, & Missouri. It cruises and drives like a a new one.

This is a somewhat rare model; only 15,186 were made. It was a direct competitor to the Chevy Nomad (and it was successful sales-wise - in comparison, only 7,886 Nomads were sold). It started off as a Ranch Wagon, with the addition of the distinctive side trim and other pieces of the top-of-the-line Fairlane series (Sunliner, Crown Victoria, Club Sedan, and Town Sedan)

 A True American Car!!
