1967 Mercury Cougar
Cougar is the Mercury success story for 1967. With sales of 123,672 for the Hardtop (shown above) and 27,221 for the XR-7 Hardtop, Cougar sales accounted for slightly less than 50% of all Mercury sales. The closest runner-up in sales was the 1967 Mercury Colony Park with 18,680 units sold. Cougar was Motor Trend's Car of the Year, too. The 1967 Cougar was clearly in a class by itself, positioned strongly between Ford's Mustang and Thunderbird. The base Cougar had a list price of $2,851. A Cougar XR-7, with leather interior and woodgrain instrument panel, could be parked in your driveway for as little as $3,051.
